Spotlight Series (Part 7)
Martian (Martian)
I am excited about this one we got to speak to Martian hailing from Melbourne. With an out of this world flow and next level Talent that is awe-inspiring.
His lyrics are full of hard-hitting punchlines and witty wordplay he is a true weapon with the words.
I am a big fan and On his page, his remix videos are truly inspiring and full of energy, I would say he is one of the hardest working rappers I have seen with so much creativity.
Martians Album “The Invasion” is a straight banger and delivers all-round excellence and bars by the dozen.
Do your ears a favour and give it a listen you will see what I mean!!!
He has blessed the stage with the likes of Obie Trice,360, Chris Webby, Merkules, Seth Sentry, TYS, PEZ, Swollen Members, Madchild and Futuristic.
Also being 1/4 of 4Fins(Clue, Martian, Joey Maker, Johniepee) these guys are amazing too you should check them out as well.

Why the name Martian?
To be honest ever since I was a kid I’ve been obsessed with space, the universe, the imaginative and scientific side of things.
I wanted to be an astronaut but I soon realised my grades might not allow that career path. I found it so much more amazing and limitless then what’s going on here haha. Couple that with not really feeling like I fit in growing up, I wanted a name that reminded me to stay young at heart, stay imaginative and creative and to not aim for “normal” in life.
Where did you grow up?
Melbourne, Australia, South East side my whole life! Still here. Not sure I could live anywhere else in the world…..Unless I get super rich then it’s holiday home somewhere sunny for the winter. Winter sucks
What Inspired your Music?
tbh…I did. There’s nobody really musical at all in my family, I saw a piano in primary school sat down and started playing it. Took up lessons in classical (hated it) but I was advancing twice as fast as the other students and sorta learnt that once I heard a song, I understood it and could dissect it completely. I was one of those annoying kids that could hear a song and learn it instantly.
How Long have you been Rapping?
I’ve been rapping almost 6 years now but I’m not sure those first couple years count. More so because I was more focused on the songwriting/beat making to even notice I was a trash vocalist and didn’t start working on that until a few years ago.
What are some current projects your working on?
Currently got a bunch of singles in the work and an album almost ready to follow that up with. Another album after that in the bank ready to start the recording process but before then I wanna open it up and start collaborating with everybody as a rapper and a producer. All in all about 30 songs in the works haha.
Advice for the Upcoming Artist?
For those who know me, they know I write ESSAYS so to those wanting advice definitely hit me up. But if I had to be brief:
. Be authentic & Original. DON’T chase someone else’s sound . Learn other areas of the industry besides just rapping or singing. If you pick up a few side skills it becomes super valuable to yourself and others in your scene. . It’s ok to treat music like a business. If music is your real passion, you’ll invest your time, heart, creativity and soul like a passion. BUT that doesn’t mean you can’t plan, strategise and market as a business would. . Accept feedback/critique graciously, especially from other artists and close fans. . Above ALL don’t compete and get bitter about your fellow artists.
Don’t play the numbers game and feel shit coz someone else has more insta followers or streams. It’s the quickest way to depression and no productivity. Just do you. Be grateful and support other artists when they win, your time will come.
Who is your top 5 Artists?
Top 5 Aus would have to be (in no order) Seth, Chillinit, 360, BlissnEso, Hoods. Worth stating to the salt pillars who whinge when people pick poppier artists I’m not just looking at vocal/lyrical ability.
I’m looking at the entire body of work from songwriting /production/creativity/ influence on the scene and my music/longevity etc.
Top 5 worldwide I’d have to go: J Cole, Mac Miller, Seth, Em, Kendrick with a million other artists that could sub in at any point.
Who would be your Ultimate Feature/Colab?
Ultimate Collab/Feature: . J Cole for a verse . Kanye for a beat . Drake or SZA for a hook . Dave Grohl for a drum battle . Tyler the creator to produce a video clip for me
Message to the Youth?
It’s never too early to start your hustle. Fuck off the drugs, people, booze, toxic family, ANYTHING that’s not benefitting your life in a positive/productive way and moving you closer to your goals and ambitions.
Be honest with yourself, call yourself out on your bullshit and above all look after yourself, your friends and your family. This gets a safe job and holds out until your dead mentality doesn’t work any more.
Pretend you KNOW there’s a meteor coming in 50 years to kill everyone. Still gonna get that desk job? no? Good. Go do the things that mean something to you in life and don’t do it sparingly. Also, drink more water.
