Enough from me here is the Interview.
Why the Name Imagine the Rapper?
I remember watching an interview of Logic and he was asked where he got his name. He replied that his mentor told him to look through the dictionary and find a word that best described him. So I did the same and found Imagine … as for “the rapper” part , I just added that so I could be found easier on social media and search engines.
Describe your Sound/Style?
I think my Style is constantly evolving , every time I find a comfort zone I like to push myself right out of it. But overall I would say I make melodic story telling hip hop with a dash of punk.
what Inspired your Music?
I take influence from all different parts of my life , whether it is the artists that I listen to / work with , the places I’ve lived , the experiences that I’ve had or the challenges I’ve faced.
Advice for the upcoming artist?
I’m still one , but I’d have to say , never underestimate networking and always act with integrity and respect.
How Long have you been Rapping/Performing?
I started writing at 17 and I’m 22 now ,but I only started taking things seriously about 2 years ago. My first Rap performance was last year.
Do you have anyone that you consider your mentor? How has their help or advice shaped you?
I had a lot of guidance from Smizzy from (Mind Over Matter) during my early stages and still here and there today. Mostly now I’m learning a lot from from the producers I work with DeliPres and Tim Carr. I also run my new stuff by people who I’d consider close.
What is the first album you ever owned?
Simple Plan “Still Not Getting Any”
It was a birthday present from my mum and thrashed it on my sisters old CD player.
In your opinion who is the most influential and successful artist in your genre today and why?
That’s a big call. For me it would have to be Logic. The guys got hits , his a New York Times bestselling author , his also set to be starting in a movie that he wrote the script of. I just see him as an artist not just a rapper plus I value his morals and respect his thick skin against all the shit people try and put on him.
What are some current projects your working on?
I’m currently working on a joint EP with my good mate Trigz . I’ve also got almost an album worth of solo singles ready for next year as well so we’ll see what 2020 brings.
What would be your dream collaboration with any rapper or producer?
I’d have to say Hopsin ,MGK or Horrorshow all those artists influenced my sound a lot , so ether those dudes or a feature on a Hilltop Hoods song.
Who is your top 3 Artists Or producers or Albums?
That’s way too hard I’m just going to go with Logic , Hopsin and Horrorshow.
Message to the Youth?
You don’t have to follow in anyone’s foot steps , don’t be afraid to make your own path. Sacrifice is essential in success , Sometimes that 10 hours a week you spend with your Girlfriend watching Netflix or your mates getting high is the only thing standing between you and your dream … make a choice.
Peace
Huncho
