Enough from me here is the Interview
We gave him the Hustle 9 and he did not disappoint!!!
Why the name Master Wolf?
For many years I went by the name Skinny Mark, Skinz Markus or just Skinz. I always had the alias Mr Wolf (MW is my initials), which was a name I was planning to use in an experiment releasing very negative, materialistic, stupid music to see if it would become more popular than my genuine music, which was written to spread a positive uplifting message. Thank God I never went through with the experiment.
But in 2012 I visited a clairvoyant lady at a Solar Eclipse Festival in far north QLD. As soon as she saw me she said she saw a wolf in me. She then did my numerology and told me I have a master number and I was a teacher. I took this as a sign and accepted Master Wolf as a title under which I would release my solo music with more truth and commitment to my real message (as opposed to becoming Mr Wolf, who traditionally is known as a villain).
Where did you grow up?
I grew up on the south-west side of Brisbane in the Inala area. I lived in a bushy place on the edge of Inala called Doolandella, which would eventually be bulldozed along with a huge area of Bush to become Forest Lake. I still live in this area.
What inspired by music?
I have always been a big fan of rapping and Hip hop music, thanks to my older brother I was exposed to a lot of gangster music growing up (particularly West Coast stuff). However, it wasn’t until I first heard the Wu-tang Clan that I was inspired to start writing my own lyrics seriously.
How long have you been rapping?
I did my first show in 1999 with my group KryptamistiK. We were underage but managed to get into some venues and dance parties around Brisbane. It has been 20 years no breaks.
What are some current projects you’re working on?
I am currently editing a music video for The Wolf. It is the first single off my second solo album as Master Wolf titled ‘Love is Love pt2 – The Driving Force.
I hope to release the whole album before the end of this year. My first album (Love is Love – The Driving Force pt1) is available on bandcamp.com I have also been collaborating with a lot of other MCs from my area as well as producing and recording for them in my home studio.
I also have an ongoing collaboration project with a live band The Soul Mechanics – we were honoured to be nominated in Hip-hop category for this year’s Queensland Music Awards.
Advice for the upcoming artists?
We all start off mimicking our favourite artists. But the sooner you find your own voice and are able to be totally comfortable as yourself in your music the better. The more enjoyable it will be for you and for everybody.
Who would be your ultimate feature/collab?
It would definitely be with Poetic AKA The Grym Reaper from the Gavediggaz. He is such an underrated MC for his unique delivery style and also for his lyrics that were decades ahead of their time. I can not believe he is constantly neglected when people mention the greats who have passed. Rest in Peace
Message to the youth?
Just because something is new and trendy doesn’t mean it’s valuable. Just because something is old and not currently viral on social media doesn’t mean it is not valuable.
Steer clear of hopping from bandwagon to bandwagon. Because what comes fast goes fast.
Show this Local Legend some Love!!!
