Mugzy (Mugzy)
We are back again with another Artist Spotlight Interview.
This Time we got the chance to speak to Mugzy hailing from the Central Coast.
His style is a true expression of the elements of Hip Hop with a raw gritty take on life and hardship. Representing a sound that will resonate with the generation of people struggling with self-doubt and lack of self-confidence.
The beats are full of solid throwbacks with hints of nostalgia to old school beats, Top this with his aggressive raw flow they are definite classics and are a showcase of his skills.
Mugzy is always open to collaboration with all artists and representing the True freedom in Hip Hop culture.

We threw down the Solid 6 and he didn’t disappoint!!!
Main influences in Music?
Hip Hop Artists who are my inspirations from (Day 1) and STILL to this day I listen too are Rakim, 50 Cent, Tupac, Eminem, Nas, DMX
Rakim to me IS the GOD MC
He is the epitome of what a true mc/hip hop head should be down to every detail, The Look, Sound, Style, Skills, Message, Atmospheric, (The list goes on)
This phrase going around “G.O.A.T” too me I believe “Rakim” IS THE GOAT
Besides the music world, I will say a HUGE influence on me is My man “Allen Iverson AKA A.I”
Just his flavour of style. I’m very BIG and a huge critique when it comes to styles especially within hip hop
Majority of today’s hip-hop fashion scene is too feminine for my liking that it doesn’t fly with me
But A.I def 100% keeps his flavour FLY
I take a lot of his similarities into my own wardrobe from time to time ha-ha
Your Message to the Youth?
The Best advice I can give to any artist who wanna get into the music industry is this, Don’t think your gonna be an overnight celeb when you FIRST pick up the pen thinking its all fun & games making it look easy because it’s 100% not.
This industry will cheat you in so many different ways it’s not funny it will bring you to your knees to the point of failure and making you doubt yourself of always wanting to give up
But if your willing to hustle daily because inside you generally love hip hop or love MUSIC and are willing to go down that long hard road of wanting this dream more than anything else in the WORLD combined, (Not because its a phase, Not because you want stardom, Not because you wanna be a Celeb).
If it’s because of the Love & Hip Hop then you have my 100% FULL RESPECT!!!
Speaking on today’s hip hop/State of hip hop today?
I believe “the underground” has always kept it 100% to the core of what true hip hop represents (Substance, Self Expression, Message, Idealist, Change) There is so much TALENT spread across the globe within the underground who are still keeping that TRUE Hip Hop Aspect/Flavour Alive it’s just a shame majority turn their heads to this NEW-era of (Trap, Drill, Mumble)
Yes, hip hop is a younglings game hey I was 14 when I first dove into the sound/culture of hip hop. But from the way, it’s heading/acting now and the level of disrespect these younglings have for the grates who paved the way before them is disgusting and they did realize the mass-effect it can have when it comes as a “Cultural Standpoint”
I believe social media is 50/50 on doing this damage to the culture.
(One) Yes, I believe it’s a great tool to branch out your business/product/ideas without manual handling like we use to do (Sell hard copies).
But on the flip side, a lot of these great ideas never come to light because the dumb-down mass-produce stupidity is what’s HOT now.
Its a “Hot or Not” way of thinking these younglings have, compared to how we use to buy our music Now it’s “Whose hot?” and if that HOT artist has a wack album or record the month/year later these kids tend to move onto the next.
With us we invested our time/dedication into the “Artists” not because one min their single is hot…the next it flops. I believe that level of thinking is the reason we have these corny artists
You can’t tell me “Lil Nas X – Old Town Road” is BETTER than anything “Quincy Jones/Michael Jackson” done “Billie Jean – Thriller” (the catalogue goes on) just because the kid is No:1 Billboard ….”If you believe that you are moron period”
What artist would be your dream Collab and Why?
Rakim The GOD MC
Even though I know he’d body me in a track ha-ha. It is still dope to have a feature with him
Greatest Album of all time?
Illmatic
What’s next for Mugzy?
I actually want to get back into the studio ASAP My 2nd album (Understand Me) released in 2013 so it’s been 6yrs since I’ve released anything NEW I’ve kind of been slacking on music because I’ve been getting into a lot of acting But I miss music so much especially the high/adrenaline of crafting new work
So I’ve got a tonne of work to do
At the moment I have a tonne of beats on my iPod most are other people’s instrumentals even from the likes of Greek Producer “Yanni”, but when I sit back and listen to them I can hear them sounding like masterpieces, So when the time comes ill figure out how to use them.
Also for my 3rd album I want to do a 3disk (That’s right a triple as 3 is my LUCKY number) a pile as much music/craft out as possible.
That’s all I can say at this point nothing more
Can’t wait it’s gonna be one hell of a rollercoaster….2019 fans will def hear something once again from Mugzy
